The Bone Blog
Thoughts and excerpts from some silly musicians
Our History
Julie’s Bones started as a group of high school friends. From 2017 on, our jazz band’s rhythm section was the four of us. We unconsciously started communicating incredibly well as a section, laying one of the best foundations in the history of Holland High School’s jazz program.
Then COVID came.
We spent most of the lockdown individually writing, oblivious to the idea of starting a band until late 2021. We all assumed the world was over and stockpiled our best works at the time.
As soon as we realized that free will was a real thing, we dropped our inhibitions and began performing together.
What came after was a slurry of high-octane live shows that put our name on the local map. We were then picked up by a fellow artist by the name of Ghost Wallace, who introduced us to our longtime producer, Joel Ferguson at Planet Sunday Studios.
We started off lightly, leaning into the trappings of bedroom pop/rock and slowly grew heavier and darker over time - like if Mac Demarco only listened to Tool and Deftones.
We speak about our loves, our losses, our opinions, our stories, and political ideologies through our music. If you dig deep enough, you’ll know us well in no time.
Blog 1 - Who’s Julie?
Many questions are asked about our titular Julie. Who is she? Who was she? Where is she?
I can tell you where she’s not:
6 feet under.
Maybe it’s an acronym. “Just yoU wait, they’re gonna blow your Little Itty-bitty Ears off”
No, that’s not it.
Whoever Julie was or is, we are her bones. We keep her moving and stable.
Most skeletons don’t only have four bones, right?
That’s why WE are Julie’s Bones. The band doesn’t exist without an audience, and we are so incredibly thankful to everyone who has given a moment of their time to partake in the art we have thrust forward into the universe.
From the bottom of our hearts,
Thank you all.
So, so much.
